Win a Kindle + Mardi Maxwell reveals Zane's Choice

BLURB:

Beautiful, curvy, Ravyn Templeton saw Zane Ramsey in a BDSM club in Houston three years ago. He’s haunted her dreams ever since.

Zane is an Assistant District Attorney and co-owner of Club Mystique, the BDSM club he and his brothers built on their Texas ranch. When Ravyn’s ex-husband is arrested for trying to have her killed the case is assigned to Zane.

The moment Zane meets Ravyn he wants her and even though he knows having an affair with her will jeopardize his career he can’t resist her. When Ravyn’s ex-husband accuses her of laundering money for a drug cartel, and she refuses to answer Zane’s questions, he leaves her.

Fate in the form of Zane’s sister-in-law, Addison Ramsey, steps in and brings them together again and again. Zane has the power to save Ravyn but only if he loves her enough to choose her over his career and a justice system he believes in.

EXCERPT:

Ravyn perched on the edge of the chair with her hands crossed on her lap. Zane paced from one side of the room to the other. The belt in his hand swung by his side as he moved by her. Luc slouched on a couch across from her, his body relaxed as he read text messages on his phone. Finally, Zane stopped in front of her. She looked at him, then lowered her eyes. The expression in his eyes didn’t bode well for her.

“By leaving the ranch without a security team, you endangered not only your own life but the lives of Addison, Jenna, Cassie, and Marisol.” Zane doubled the belt, then snapped it against his leg. “And, Cade and Addison’s baby. Are you aware of that?”

“Yes, and I’m sorry, Sir.” Ravyn kept her eyes on the belt in his hand. She’d enjoyed the spanking Zane had given her at the ranch. She wasn’t sure she would ever want to be spanked with a leather belt, though.   She peered up at him.

A dark brow flicked up over narrowed eyes before he said, “They’ve been sharing things with you—BDSM things.”

Ravyn nodded but didn’t speak. She was a quick study and he hadn’t asked her a question.

“Do you know what is happening to them right now?”

“I think they’re probably being spanked, Sir.”

Zane nodded. “Do you think it’s fair that they’re being punished but you’re not?”

   “No, Sir.”

“Do you know why I’m here?”

   “To punish me, Sir.”

Zane crossed his arms over his chest. He released one end of the belt and it hung down his side. “In what way do you think you should be punished?”

“I think I should be spanked, too, Sir.”

Zane moved to the fireplace and leaned against the mantel. “What’s your safe word, princess?”

Ravyn knew she didn’t dare choose guilty again. She thought quickly, then said, “Spades, Sir.”

Zane’s left brow went up then his lips tightened. “I’m giving Luc permission to spank you. Do you understand?”

Ravyn shook her head. “I want you to do it. Please, Sir.”

“You know that isn’t possible. Now, you have a choice. You can use your safe word or you can get yourself over Luc’s lap.”

Ravyn felt the heat of a blush cover her face as she stood, then awkwardly lowered herself over Luc’s lap. He chuckled, then adjusted her until the upper half of her body was lying half on the couch. Her toes were barely touching the floor and she had to grab the edge of the couch to keep from falling. Luc slid his hand beneath her belly and lifted her until her ass was sticking up, then his hands slid over her butt cheeks.

From his place at the fireplace, Zane said, “Luc, that’s enough touching. Just get on with it.”

Ravyn raised her head and twisted her neck as far as she could to see Zane. He glared at her, then nodded at Luc. “Twenty swats, Luc. Make them memorable.”

As the last word left Zane’s lips, Luc swatted her, hard.

“Ow, dam—dang.” Before she could catch her breath, another swat landed, then Luc began giving her two slaps on each butt cheek while he worked his way down her butt to the backs of her thighs. Each swat was followed by a howled litany of ows and eventually sobs, as tears covered her cheeks. Luc stopped for a moment and rubbed her ass, and the heat on her butt increased, but not in a good way.

“I can’t stand anymore.” Ravyn sobbed, then wiggled and tried to get away.

“You have a safe word,” Zane said. “Use it.”

Ravyn sealed her lips, determined that if her new friends were being punished like this, then she would be, too.

Zane crouched down by her head and turned her to face him. “Be still, or I’ll have Luc double your punishment.”

She froze, her eyes zeroed in on Zane’s, and Luc began swatting her again. His hand moved back and forth across the back of her thighs before moving back up to her bottom where he landed the last one right across the crack of her ass. She bit her lip to keep from screaming, but couldn’t prevent the tears from running down her cheeks. Zane lifted her and set her on the couch next to Luc.

“Hurts,” she sobbed as her hot, stinging bottom came into contact with the cool leather of the couch.

“It’s supposed to hurt,” Zane said, his voice stern.

Ravyn rubbed her eyes, then sniffled.

Zane stood up, then pinched her chin between his fingers and raised her face to his. “You’re a beautiful mess.”

Ravyn wanted to scream curses at him. How did the brute expect her to look after he let Luc beat her ass raw?

He pulled her up, then patted her bottom, and chuckled when she squealed with pain and jumped away from him. “There’s a half bath at the end of the hall. You have one minute to wash your face and get back here.”

Win a Kindle + David Russell talks about Dreamtime Sensuality

Dreamtime Sensuality
Many a dream can be realized with a little forethought. The characters in this quartet of stories are intelligent, sensitive and literary. They are also supremely voyeuristic and open-minded. Their intelligence is counterbalanced by inhibitions, which they can only lose by premeditated seduction scenarios, which relate intimately to their professional, creative and cultural lives. The great effort each couple puts into arranging a scenario seems to enhance the quality of the experience. A great source of inspiration for this and other works has been the novel The Girl Beneath the Lion by André Pieyre de Mandiargues.

Seductive Semaphore: Fashion Designer Bethesda and journalist Hector live opposite each other, with windows facing. They make initial contact through visible, provocative gestures. Soon afterwards, they get direct contact when Hector assists Bethesda with her folio. She invites him round to model for some of her fashion creations, and proceeds to seduce him. The seduction continues with a ritual visit to a sports centre, and then to a beach. They leave it open as to whether their relationship could ever become long-term.

The Heroine and the Author: Dreamer Hecate discovers she has a terminal illness. She wants to make the most of the time she has left by being celebrated in literature as a charismatic, legendary figure. She meets Ferdinand, a ghost writer, who is happy to undertake this massive project with her. In the process, She gets an idea of his physique through jogging and the fitness centre. Then there is a seduction scene inspired by the literary models of Sappho and Donne. Being ‘open-minded’, they make a pact for each one to go and have a sexual adventure – his hetero, hers lesbian. Their relationship is enhanced by this extra dimension.

Dreamtime Sensuality: Romona, highly literary and highly inhibited, goes to an exotic island location. She deeply desires a passionate encounter. At the Pension where she stays, she meets Stefano, who fulfills her requirements exactly. The proprietress of the Pension picks up on Romona’s shyness, and gives her reassurance, including some practice in the art of kissing. Romona orchestrates an elaborate beach seduction scenario, and they are both fulfilled. They never meet again, but their exchange of emails and text messages goes on indefinitely.

Dancing with Danger: Verona is a Scriptwriter and Gareth an archaeologist. They both have ‘retreats’ near the coast, and discover their common interests. Verona contrives a half-seduction on a deserted beach, wearing 18th century retro gear – related to their common interests. After some further encounters, they give each other a ‘dare’ to go and have a really risky encounter with someone really dodgy. Gareth finds a young woman on the run. Verona has a rapturous encounter with someone who gets hauled in by the police, suspected of terrorism. She uses her charm on the interrogating police officer to extricate herself. So Verona and Gareth both meet up again, to tell their respective tales.

Excerpt:

Hecate read some verses of Sappho, which she felt totally appropriate to his slender grace, so nearly androgynous. She quoted a phrase demanding his fixed, concentrated stare into her eyes. The eye contact was clinched Hecate’s introduction was a quote from her.

Ferdinand responded to the prompt; he knew what he had to do—gradually, at intervals, he removed his garments one by one as she breathily read the hypnotic, seductive phrases.

His garments came off with ease and grace, he obviously had some long-repressed desire to do this. At last, he stood before her, beautiful, naked, and slender. Somehow, his spirit prevailed over his earlier reticence, he shed his shyness with his clothing. Since she saw him in trunks, Hecate anticipated this moment with such relish. If the pool had been empty when they were there, she would have taken them off there, or in the shower. Perhaps something could happen, or even be premeditated in the future, on a deserted beach, secluded amid the dunes.

She handed him a volume of the collected poems of John Donne. “Now, I think you know which one I want you to read me. Hmm…while we’ve been working together, I bet you’ve had some reveries of me undressing, you undressing me.”

“I have to admit that is so and I know which poem you mean, it’s Elegy Nineteen—To His Mistress Going to Bed.

“We really are on the same wavelength darling. I had learned of that poem as a young girl, with a desperate desire one day to enact it. Every word of it struck home as I disrobed alone, for years I yearned for that lovely partner to give me those instructions live.”

Ferdinand beamed, then quoted from near the end of the poem referring to the poet’s nakedness at the beginning of the action. Then he proceeded to read, with his lovely, hypnotic voice.

He really made Hecate’s girdle feel like Saturn’s rings As she undid her sash and cast it down, she felt her abdomen was bathed in heavenly light, visible only to spiritual eyes.

The request to remove her ‘breastplate’ gave her an etheric shudder. Taking off the brooch at the top of her dress felt like casting away a shield, affirming that strife and combat had been replaced by love.
In response to the exhortation to unlace, she felt deliciously nervous as her fingers twitched on her zips and buttons.

As the gown went off following the next command, Hecate felt she had emerged from a perennial cocoon, that she was the sun liberated from the constricting veils of night.

As for a ‘coronet’, Hecate was only wearing a slide, but removing it certainly helped her locks flow freely.

It was great to feel liberated from footwear; earlier on her high heels had felt so sexy. But now her stockinged feet tingled with electric desire.

With her underwear, admittedly she found nylon, calico and silk sexier than linen, but the word, so sensually uttered, really relevant. (from The Heroine and the Author – Story 2)

Win a Kindle + find out how Tina Donahue does a Wicked Takeover!

WICKED TAKEOVER

Blurb:

She’s just inherited a tattoo parlor…and the hunk who comes with it.

Lauren’s in a helluva mess. Not only has she lost her corporate job, her long-absent father just left her a struggling tattoo parlor along with the virile dude who runs it. Dante’s sinfully hot with a killer smile and inked biceps. Lauren’s full-figured, sorta pretty and wanting him badly. Dream on. She’s here to sell the place as quickly as possible for some much-needed cash.

Dante sees the heat in Lauren’s eyes despite her conservative appearance. He recognizes the dynamite woman she could be if she’d just loosen up and have some wicked fun. Dominance and submission. Making love in a public place. Having her lush body always accessible to and ready for his.

Carnal games that seduce them until lust turns to surprising need and friendship to something deeper that might just change their futures.

Excerpt:

At a sound from behind, she turned. A guy came down the hall, his attention on the clipboard he held.

Lauren’s heart stalled then raced.

She guessed him to be in his early thirties, a mountain of a man, possibly six-three, not a trace of fat on his hard body, just smooth bronze skin and slabs of muscles. Lord, lord, lord. He wore faded jeans and a gray sleeveless tee. His bulging biceps sported tats. The one on his right arm was an armband of what appeared to be thorns. The design on his left arm had a tribal look about it, possibly Celtic, a series of thick black swirls that intertwined.

Lauren pressed her toes into her heels to keep from swaying or moving closer.

His hair was shoulder length, like a pirate’s, a dark brown color, thick and silky that encouraged a woman to run her fingers through it to ease those strands away from his gorgeous face. Masculine. Decidedly Latin. Virile to the extreme. Even though it was barely two o’clock, he already had five o’clock shadow and more testosterone pumping through him than the law should have allowed.

She imagined him nude. Hell, she imagined both of them naked, his bristly cheeks tickling the insides of her thighs, his tongue lapping her cleft, settling on her clit but not rushing her climax. No damn way. Lauren figured a guy who looked as great as he did wouldn’t let her come quickly. He’d make her wait for pleasure. Once she was blubbering in delight, he’d bend her over the front counter and warn her to behave, which meant she couldn’t moan too loudly as he spanked her. Her cries of delight would come later when he plunged his meaty cock into her juicy cunt, taking what he wanted, because that’s the kind of man he was.

Uninhibited. Alpha to the core.

Lauren whimpered.

Despite the strains of Spanish guitars flowing from the sound system, he’d obviously heard the noise she’d made. Halting suddenly, he lifted his face, his dark brown eyes meeting hers. He smiled easily, confidently.

Her bones went soft.

“Hey,” he said.

Lauren’s belly fluttered at his deep, rich baritone.

Noting her office wear, he put the clipboard on the front counter and moved closer, his stride smooth and assured. His fragrance wafted toward her. Something clean and citrusy that reminded Lauren of summer days, an ocean breeze, sun baking naked skin.

She locked her knees to keep her balance. Her attention inched from his impressive Adam’s apple to his luscious mouth, his full, kissable lips.

“Did you lose your way?” he asked.

With him, any woman would. Not only was he beautiful, intelligence burned in his eyes and reflected in his surprisingly educated speech. “I’m sorry, what?”

He regarded her suit and heels. “Are you looking for another shop?”

“No.”

Surprise registered on his face. “You’re here for a tat?”

Lauren stared at the ones on his biceps, unable to help herself. Damn, they were hot. “Not exactly.”

He nodded. The ends of his hair swayed over his broad shoulders. Mesmerized, Lauren watched.

“A piercing?” he asked.

“What?”

“Are you here for a piercing?” He gestured to another wall filled with pictures. The muscles in his upper arm flexed.

Lauren bit back a sound of approval at that and the silky dark hair in his pit. She pictured her face pressed to it as she smelled his wonderful, male scent.

“You can see what we offer in those photos,” he said. “We also have binders of what we’ve done for past clients to give you an idea of what you might like.”

Lauren nodded absently, wondering if he was dating the young woman who’d left here earlier. If not, the spring in her step was probably from him inking a hidden part of her. “Do people really get their tongues tattooed?”

He grinned, showing perfect teeth. “You bet.”

“Why?”

He shrugged good-naturedly. “Why not?”

Clearly, he wasn’t uptight as she’d always been. How Lauren envied that. “Have you?”

“Have I what?”

“Had your tongue tattooed? Or are the ones on your arms all that you have?”

His smile broadened. He spoke conspiratorially. “I have another, though not on my tongue.”

Uh-huh. Lauren wondered if he’d inked his balls and cock, hoping he hadn’t. His equipment had to be as awesome as the rest of him. No way could anyone improve on nature’s perfection.

She sighed.

He regarded her thoughtfully, really taking in her short blonde hair, clothes and finally her features, including the small mole near the side of her mouth. There, he lingered, as though he liked the beauty mark.

Are you nuts? A guy like him? Get real.

He continued to study her mouth.

A wave of desire and embarrassment rushed through Lauren so quickly, her throat and cheeks got hot.

He smiled softly this time, as though he felt bad for making her uncomfortable. Lightly touching her arm, he murmured, “Let me get those binders so you can look through them.”

“No, don’t. Please. That’s not why I’m here.”

His dark eyebrows lifted a bit. “You’re selling something?” His attention went to her purse as though her product line was in there.

“Uh no. I’m here to take over.”

“Take over?”

“Uh-huh.”

He looked lost. “As in what?”

“This place.” At his continuing confusion, she blurted, “I own this place and everything in it, including you.”

★ WIN A KINDLE & MANY MORE PRIZES ★ @BooksToGoNow gives their POV on Giving the Antagonist a POV!!

Giving the Antagonist a POV by Chris Karlsen

I read across the board genres, especially romances, thrillers, and historical fiction. I write paranormal romances and romantic thrillers. With my first two paranormal novels, Heroes Live Forever and Journey in Time, Point of View was limited to either the hero or heroine. The antagonist(s) in those stories were mainly the situations the hero and heroine found themselves in and had to overcome. On occasion, the situations generated villainous characters for them to encounter, but those characters did not have running roles throughout the stories.

In Knight Blindness, book three of my paranormal romance series, I took a somewhat different direction with the antagonist. Although he’s the hero’s nemesis, he is not a villain. Like the hero, he is a man who believes in his king’s cause, a man who goes into battle to fight for his country. During the course of the story, he goes from battlefield enemy to dogged pursuer of the hero. I knew as the plot progressed that I wanted him to be as three-dimensional and fleshed out as the hero. That meant giving him a POV, a personal history. Like the hero, he too generated a lot of reader comments. He evoked some strong feelings, some really disliked him and others felt a connection, a certain empathy for him.

I didn’t realize when I started the book that building a world, a backstory for him to create a credible POV, would open the door to a potential story where he is the hero.

Golden Chariot and Byzantine Gold, the romantic thrillers, had definite antagonists. They were cunning and dangerous people who placed the protagonists in perilous circumstances. These are not characters out of a Criminal Minds episode driven by blood lust. They’re men with an agenda. They have a goal and what they consider a logical purpose for their actions. Whether it’s for revenge, financial gain, or for a cause they believe in, they feel justified in everything they do.

Golden Chariot has three antagonists. Two are the masterminds behind the artifact smuggling operation. The third is a contract killer hired by the other two. When one of the conspirators orders an government agent murdered without the other’s knowledge, the co-conspirator is incensed. Their entire scheme nearly falls apart, a situation the man who ordered the murder can’t afford to have happen. I needed to give him an extraordinary reason for taking this risk. To justify his actions, he required a POV. Taking a path less traveled by handing the antagonist this power can be surprising fun, it can be enlightening for both the author and the reader. What resulted was suddenly seeing both the man behind the murder and the victim in a different light. That didn’t change the fact the killing was wrong, but it helped to understand why the man ordered the murder.

I also gave the contract killer a POV. The reader sees him exactly for what he is: a man who kills for profit. He doesn’t moralize about his business or try to justify his actions. He is what he is, most of the time. In addition to POV, I gave him moments of surprise for the reader. There is one scene where he performs a random act of kindness, totally unexpected for the amoral and generally cruel man.

In another scene we see him at home. Through the eyes of the heroine, we see his taste in furniture, in music, in something as simple as fine crystal. It is easy to forget the antagonist has a mother, possibly siblings, food he/she likes, a certain style of décor or clothing. Those reveals can pull a reader closer to the story. The enemy isn’t an indistinct, vacuous man or woman who is just evil. They have personality and that personality can go many directions.

This same killer returns in Byzantine Gold, the sequel to Golden Chariot. For that story, I took him a step further and gave him a love interest. This is by no means a man who desires love or even has the capacity to give it in any deep way. As mentioned, he is amoral and without the warmth of character. That doesn’t mean there isn’t a woman who finds a way to love him. In this book, he finds himself attracted to a young woman and he chooses to let her travel with him. They share moments where he is true to his nature and brutal to her. There are other moments where he has the opportunity to show an unexpected kinder side of himself.

Byzantine Gold also has a political terrorist who shares the role of antagonist. As horrifying as terrorism is to us, to him, his cause is righteous and he will do anything he must to achieve his goal.

Giving the antagonist(s) in these last two books POVs has also generated commentary from readers and reviewers. They were by no means sympathetic to the characters (I hadn’t intended them to be) but were intrigued seeing the character fleshed out in a way where their motivation was not excused but understood. They became three dimensional for the reader. The antagonist’s POV is not often shown and as a result these men stood out. One reviewer emailed me privately and said: the relationship between the killer and the young woman in Byzantine Gold had him wondering at times what the killer might’ve been like had he met someone like her sooner. Knowing the killer as well as I do, I’d have to say I doubt he’d be any different. What was important, in my opinion, was the fact the question was raised and that he created interest beyond the norm.

To me one of the great antagonist/villains of recent years was Tony Soprano. He was the villain you hated to love. Week after week, we’d see him kill people, order people killed, engage in all sorts of illegal activity, and take every possible opportunity to cheat on his loving wife. On the face of it, one would think it unimaginable to like this man. Yet...what else did the writer’s show? The audience saw a man who loved the ducks who landed in his pool. They saw a man who suffered anxiety attacks and sought the services of a psychiatrist. They saw a man who adored and protected his daughter, felt disappointment in the son he had high hopes for, who looked after his unpleasant mother and annoying sister. And deep down, at times, we embraced him. When Dr. Melfi was raped and beaten, and Tony came to his appointment while she was still injured, didn’t most of us say aloud, “tell him, tell Tony who did this to you. He’ll take care of the brute.” I, for one, was very disappointed she didn’t.

Antagonists can be humorous, intelligent, surprising, and have all sorts of quirks. All of which can make a story much richer, if we give them a voice and POV.

★ WIN A KINDLE & MANY MORE PRIZES ★ @BooksToGoNow is gettin social! 10 Great Reasons to Blog!!

The importance of social media to an author, by Sharon Kleve

I found this great article by Andrew Grant published on July 1st 2013 on why you should have a Blog and thought it was excellent. http://www.projecteve.com/why-you-should-have-a-blog-10-great-reasons/

Why You Should Have a Blog – 10 Great Reasons

1 – Everybody is interested in something

And doing that favorite something is the quickest path to happiness and fulfillment that I know of. Therefore, it’s logical to conclude that writing a blog about that something is probably the most accessible way to make money around your favorite way of spending time.

2 – A blog will make you friends

The very essence of a blog is that it will attract people who like the same things as you. They may see them very differently and they may well not agree with everything you say, but they will definitely share your interests. Isn’t that the very definition of friendships?

3 – Blogging encourages your creativity

Even if you don’t think of yourself as creative, I am willing to bet that if you set yourself the challenge of writing three short blog posts about something you love, you will be amazed at how creative you can be.

4 – Owning a blog gives you motivation.

Once you begin to see the fruits of your efforts and especially when you start to get positive feedback from people you have never met, you will find that what looked like an onerous task at the outset is suddenly a pleasure to do – you can’t wait to see what your loyal readers will think of your latest post.

5 – Blogging gives you self-discipline

Once you set yourself a schedule to regularly blog, you feel a responsibility to your readers to deliver on your commitment, but it’s a pleasure not a stress, because you know they are enthusiastically waiting for what you give them.

6 – Blogging keeps you sharp.

If you write a how-to blog, like mine, then you will be honing your skills of research and summation. If your blog is more opinion based, then you need to keep abreast of other views and the latest developments in your field so that you can comment on them with authority. You’ll find your thinking skills get keener and your ability to filter good information from bad gets a lot more efficient.

7 – Blogging is rewarding

I guarantee that the best thing you will get from blogging is the satisfaction of making a difference to someone else’s life no matter how minor that difference might be. From a grateful reader telling you how much they enjoyed following one of your patterns to the person making their first few dollars online. The moment when you read their heartfelt email will be one of the high-points of your week.

8 – A blog is a test-bed.

Once you start to build an audience, your blog will become the place where you can try stuff out. You can ask their opinion on your plans and projects, test different offers with them and best of all you can get them to tell you what they need so you can make a product that suits, safe in the knowledge that as soon as you do, they are going to be the first ones to buy it.

9 – You don’t need to be a good writer.

No matter how poor you think your writing skills are, I absolutely encourage you to just get stuck in and start writing immediately. There are some great blogs out there written by people who are nowhere near polished, but they write with an intensity that makes that meaningless. In fact if they improved their writing, their blogs probably wouldn’t be as good. Their passion shines through.

10 – Google loves bloggers

Every post you write, every picture you link and every comment you receive is another little building brick in the great structure of your credibility. The great bloggers out there have built their authority, their popularity and their credibility, by doing one thing well and doing it regularly. Creating stuff that people want to read, watch, listen to and act upon. Ike the movie said, “If you build it they will come,” and that was never more appropriate than when applied to blogging.

Quite simply, a blog is the best and most long-term profitable way to spend your time on the internet, bar none.

This YouTube video is a simple step-by-step instruction on how to set-up a Blog on Blogger.

Bio:

Sharon Kleve was born and raised in Washington and currently lives on the Olympic Peninsula with her husband.
Sharon is a multi-published author of paranormal and contemporary romance. She loves romance. She loves reading romance, living romance, and especially loves writing about romance. She gets no greater feeling than watching her characters come alive in each other's arms. Most of all, she loves giving her characters the happily ever after they deservewith a few bumps and bruises along the way.
One of her favorite things to do is picking up a new book and sinking into the story, immersing herself in the emotions between the characters. She hopes to inspire her readers the same way her favorite authors have inspired her.
When not writing, she can usually be found either curled up in her recliner with her cat and a good book, or in the kitchen baking sourdough bread or bagels.
